The Answers We Chase
Sometimes peace begins when we stop waiting for the answers we think we need.

One of the hardest questions we ask ourselves isn’t always What happened?
It’s Why?
Why did they do it?
Did they ever love me?
Did they mean what they said?
Was any of it real?
We turn these questions over for months, sometimes years, certain that if we could just find the right angle, the truth would finally sit still long enough to be seen.
We tell ourselves that once we know, we’ll finally be able to move on.
But ask yourself this:
If the answer arrived tomorrow, clear and undeniable, leaving no room for doubt, would it actually bring you peace?
Or would you simply have a new fact to carry instead of an old question?
For a long time, I believed that answers brought peace.
I’m no longer sure they do.
Somewhere underneath almost every unanswered question is another one we rarely ask ourselves:
What do I believe this answer will give me?
Permission to move on.
Permission to grieve.
Permission to stop doubting my own worth.
Permission to trust what I already know.
You tell yourself you’re looking for the truth. Most of the time, you’re looking for relief. The answer becomes the place where you’ve stored your hope. You believe peace is waiting on the other side of it.
So you reread old messages. Replay conversations.
Search for one more clue, one more explanation, one more version of the story that will finally make everything make sense.
As long as you believe peace depends on the answer, you stay in the room with the question, long after everyone else has left it.
So what are you really chasing?
The truth? Or the feeling you believe the truth will finally give you?
Because those don’t always arrive together.
Sometimes the truth never comes. Sometimes it comes and changes nothing. And sometimes peace arrives first, quietly, almost unnoticed, long before any answer does. That peace isn’t given to you by the person who hurt you.
It can’t be. It has to be rebuilt from within.
Maybe healing was never about solving every mystery. Maybe it was never about finding the perfect answer.
Maybe it’s our need for the answer that needs resolving.
Because peace was never waiting inside the answer. It was waiting beyond your need for it. The answer may never come.
The question may never completely disappear.
But peace begins the day your life no longer depends on either.
It’s still there.
It just no longer owns you.
